Before we get started, obviously they didn’t win the series with NOBODY you know; it’s just a statement trying to make light of the long list of players on the Injured List.
Just a quick overview of who all is on the Injured List for the Braves: Max Fried, Drew Smyly, Touki Toussaint, Cristian Pache, Ender Inciarte, Sean Newcomb. While Ozzie Albies is currently nursing an ailment from being hit on the knee cap while batting on Saturday. On Sunday, Acuña left the game for a injury to his abdomen.
So how did Atlanta win the series against the Cubs?
Well, the Cubs have been one of the worst offenses in the National League in 2021, that trend continued, save Saturday. Their defense was also not what North Side of Chicago baseball fans are used too either. Left Fielder Joc Pederson made multiple fielding errors this series, even sure-handed Jason Heyward made an error.
There’s also the highlight of the series where Acuña scored from 2nd base on a grounder to shortstop Javy Baez. The grounder knocked Javy back onto his rear end, while Acuña never slowed down. When Baez realized Acuña was going home, he double-clutched then one-hopped the catcher on a throw he couldn’t corral to place the tag on Ronald.
Sunday night was an offensive explosion for Atlanta. Before Chicago even hit, the Braves hit four homeruns, scoring six runs. That’s all that 2021-debuting Bryse Wilson would need, ending his night with a 5-inning, 7-hit game with two earned runs, one base on balls, & one strikeout, en route to his first win of 2021. Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks is saddled with the loss. Also in Sunday’s game, Guillermo Heredia had two homeruns, one being a grand slam; six RBI, & a single in four at-bats.
