Mike Foltynewicz has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. Meaning, he’s either going to be outrighted or traded. But really, how much trade value does one player bring if he’s been designated? Because the club that owns the player will drop him if a trade isn’t found, so it’d be bad business as another owner to give up assets to bring him in when you can just wait until he’s dropped.
With Folty being designated, Chad Sobotka has been activated & will join the team immediately. Sobotka has been a big league Brave on & off. He’s been nothing spectacular, but also not terrible. He seems, to me, to be a pitcher that can find his groove after some consistent time in the rotation.
Another option…bring up Ian Anderson. Ian is as big league ready as any pitcher in the minors was last season. He’s the 3rd ranked team prospect behind Christian Pache & Drew Waters. And his position is a way bigger need for the Braves than the outfield, where Pache & Waters plays. Ian is the 37th-ranked prospect in baseball overall.
