Preview: Ace vs Ace & State of the Mets

Tonight is the rematch of Opening Day, a game that ended in 1-0 win for the Mets. Both starting pitchers surrendered zero runs. Atlanta reliever, Shane Greene gave up the go-ahead solo homerun to Yoenis Cespedes.

Cespedes was a no-show to yesterday’s Braves vs Mets game. He also didn’t notify the ball club of his upcoming absence. The Mets sent security to his hotel room to check on him, only to find the room was empty of anything belonging to Yoenis. As if Cespedes planned and executed a clean getaway from an admiring lover. Turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

Cespedes had his agent inform the Mets during the middle innings of yesterday’s game of his decision to opt out of the remaining 2020 MLB schedule.

deGrom aside, the Mets are a mess. Their Rookie of the Year went 0-for yesterday & took out his frustrations on his bat inside the dugout. Their revamped starting rotation has been mollywhopped by a Braves lineup that doesn’t even have all it’s stars hitting to their potential yet. They signed Jed Lowrie to a 2 year/$20 million deal, and he was just relegated to the 45-day DL, effectively ending his season. Their assumed starting left fielder entering the season, Davis, has played his position like a high school ballplayer out of place in the Bigs.

Look for the Braves to score often, once deGrom is pulled, maybe even before.
